Who: Kirino Ranmaru and Kariya Masaki
What: Exploring funtimes! Also event-related not-so-fun-times.
When: September 20th
Where: Dreamyard
Warnings: Nightmare-y things happening!
It didn't take Kirino and Kariya long to reach the Dreamyard at all, and they'd been poking around the area for at least an hour already. Out of Kirino's Pokémon, Athos had opted to stay behind for some reason. Kirino wasn't necessarily complaining, but he felt a little apprehensive with the ghost-type not with him. It might have been connected to the foreboding feeling he had but shoved to the back of his mind. He was worrying too much as usual. That was all. He shouldn't let his imagination get ahead of him like that, right?
Kirino waded his way through the grass, which came up to his waist. "... The area's bigger than I thought it'd be."

Suisei had opted to go back into his ball early on in the two trainers' hike, but Kariya trekked along with the same energy he'd been playing with the feline with before. A determined look was set on his face as he followed along beside Kirino, as if set on some task...
Though what that task was, he couldn't say. Figure out what this mess of a place was supposed to be, maybe? Maybe just see enough new Pokémon for the day to not be a total waste. It never hurt to have a goal.
"At least the 'yard' part of the name makes sense."

Kirino's focus wasn't on Kariya as he walked along, rather, it was on the ground. Clearly, he had the intention of leaving no stone unturned, so to speak. "It'd probably take ages to thoroughly explore the entire thing, yeah?"

Kariya was busy skimming the grass out ahead of them. They had run across a fair few Pokémon since finding their way to the Dreamyard, but not many had bounded close enough to fight or investigate the two humans. Most likely, they were used to humans poking around...
"And come back, if there's anything interesting! Since we can hang around the city as long as we want."
Well. Traveling companions' patience permitting.

Kirino made a sound of acknowledgement as he gently moved aside a pile of brush. This caused a few green, spider-like Pokémon to skitter away from their disturbed habitat, one in particular on a collision course with Kariya's foot.

Kariya had never been super-squeamish about bugs, but the sight of the little swarm of them showing up out of nowhere from the bush -- and of one of them heading straight for his personal space - still sent one hand to the Pokéballs waiting at his belt. He darted his grip uncertainly between the three occupied spheres, while taking a hurried step back.
"Uhm, uhm! Kirino-senpai, what type do you use against bugs?"
Wait.
"...fff, is it still a bug-type if it's a spider??"

Kariya hissed back sourly, as he fumbled to pull free Reize's ball. The Spinarak skittering its way after him didn't look hostile exactly...but it had at least decided that it wanted to try crawling up the tall, fleshy thing. That had to count as a good reason for a battle, right? Before it decided to try tasting, as well.
"Steel-type, okay -- Reize, go!"
The spider finally halted its advance, when the Mawile flashed out in front of it.
"Alright, Reize...Bite!"

Kirino's eyes flicked from Kariya to the Mawile to the Spinarak, the pink-haired boy deciding to keep his distance... And well away from the other spidery Pokémon that had been disturbed.
Well, if anything, he could always offer input on the battle if Kariya needed it...

"Again!"
This time, the bug-type flagged some in its attacker's grip. Kariya, visibly holding his breath, reached to seize an empty Pokéball.
"Do you think I could...?"

And gauging how much more a Pokémon could take was another skill he was still learning. So, with a nervous flex of his digits, he waved Reize back a hop or two, and let the ball fly as his target steadied itself on the ground. A flash of light later, the thing was tossing about on the ground, back and forth, looking close to snapping open. Until...
Click.
"Yes!"
Kariya couldn't hod in a yelp of excitement, as he bounded forward to scoop his prize back up.
"Got him!"
no subject
"Nice job." He took a step or two closer with a grin. "That one's a different color from the rest of 'em, too..."

That only perked the enthusiasm on Kariya's face as he sank onto his knees. He drew Reize over, to pet along its head and jaws and murmur praise before shifting it back to its ball. Then, he pulled his bag into his lap and rummaged out a potion.
"Do you think that means it's stronger, somehow? Or just cooler-looking?"
Either would be fine, judging from his grin when the Spinarak was sent back out to be treated. Kariya carefully guided it into his lap and peeked down at the neutral look its 'face' marks were displaying.
"Here, hold still - sorry Reize had to chomp you like that."
no subject
"Hey, hand me your Xtransceiver for a sec? I want to read its Pokédex entry."
no subject
Kariya dipped back into his bag before palming the device off to his teammate. He set to spritzing potion out onto the marks where Spinarak had been bitten, next - which seemed to reassure the insect. It skittered forward on his legs to look curiously upwards.
"Heh, you're actually sort of friendly, aren't you? I was surprised when you popped out, but..."
Was petting bugs something you could do? Anyway, Kariya was trying, while Kirino checked the Pokédex.

"... Huh. 'The web spun by Spinarak can be considered its second nervous system. It is said that this Pokémon can determine what kind of prey is touching its web just by the tiny vibrations it feels through the web's strands.' That's pretty cool..."
With that, he handed the device back.

Yes, he actually said that aloud. Spinarak didn't seem to care how lame his new trainer was, though. A bite of food and a quick climb up to Kariya's chest, and he was ready to head back to his Pokéball.
The first-year brushed himself off and stood.
"Alright, where now?"
no subject
"I dunno, onwards? It doesn't really matter all that much to me."
no subject
Which way? Kariya swiveled around to stare out across the grass behind them, blinking slow. He could have sworn some of the dilapidated structures they'd passed through on their way had been back there. Instead, save for a few vague shapes in the distance, the view was just more vegetation.
"...this direction?"
An uncomfortable shrug. The moment's confusion had put him on guard, but they had to have just walked further than he'd realized.
"Yeah, it's probably all the same."
no subject
"... Weren't there a few buildings over..." He trailed off, the question fading into an uncertain noise as he gestured uselessly in the air.
"Something's not right." It sounded a little paranoid, sure, but Kirino wasn't about to doubt his instincts--and his instincts said something was really, really off.

"We're probably farther out than we noticed - " he muttered, unconvinced. For all the open grass, there had been ruins and debris in sight near-constantly. They'd had to maneuver their way around them just to get into the yard, whereas now...he squinted to try to make out if the figures off away from them were buildings or close-clumped trees.
"We'll get our bearings again, if we keep going and run into something for a landmark, probably."
But he edged closer to Kirino as he took his next few steps, all the same, and scanned the ground intently. It was way too hushed. There should have been the sound of the grass being rustled by more than the wind and the two of them, of paws or whatever else moving around...but Kariya could only latch onto the noises they were making themselves. Those and the wind.
The whole situation gave him the worst, most unplaceable case of déjà vu.
